FallShield setup

Install FallShield step by step.

Follow this short guide to download the installer, complete setup, connect cameras, and start monitoring.

Installation Guide

Follow these steps in order.

Take your time with each step. If anything is unclear the Contact page is there to help.

Open your Downloads folder and double-click the SafetySense installer file. Windows may ask if you want to allow the app to make changes — click Yes to continue.

If you have not downloaded the installer yet, open the FallShield download page ›

If McAfee or Windows Defender flags the file — this is common with new software. Click “More info” then “Run anyway,” or temporarily pause your antivirus. See step-by-step instructions ›

The installer sets everything up automatically, including downloading the AI model needed for fall detection. This is a large file and may take 5 to 20 minutes depending on your internet speed.

You can skip the AI model download during installation and add it later by running the installer again. However, fall detection will not work until the AI model is installed.

Before SafetySense can see your cameras you need to add them in the Tapo app on your phone. This takes about 5 minutes per camera.

a

Download the Tapo app on your phone from the App Store or Google Play.

b

Plug in your camera and follow the Tapo app instructions to connect it to your Wi-Fi network.

c

In the Tapo app go to Advanced Settings › Camera Account and create a username and password. Use the same username and password for every camera.

d

Make sure your phone and your Windows computer are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Write down your camera username and password and keep it somewhere safe. If you forget it you will need to reset the camera and start the Tapo setup from scratch.

Mount cameras in rooms where a fall is most likely — living room, kitchen, hallway, and bathroom are good places to start. Position each camera so the full floor area is visible and a person can be seen from head to toe.

Good placement

Corner of the room, angled downward, about 6 to 8 feet high. Full floor visible from camera to opposite wall.

Avoid

Facing a window — bright light washes out the image. Mounting too low or too close to where someone stands.

Open SafetySense on your computer and create your account. You will need:

Your name and email address
A phone number for text alerts
The camera username and password you created in the Tapo app

No credit card required. Your first month is completely free. Create your account ›

Before you rely on SafetySense do a quick test to confirm detection is working.

1

Open SafetySense and confirm the live camera feed is visible on screen.

2

Stand in front of the camera and slowly lie down on the floor so your full body is clearly visible.

3

Within about 5 seconds you should see a fall detection alert on screen. If you have an account set up a text and email will also go to your contacts.

If the alert appears you are all set. SafetySense is now watching and your family will be notified the moment anything happens.

If detection does not trigger after several attempts, check that the AI model was installed, that the camera has a clear view of the floor, and that good lighting is present. If issues continue contact support.
